BASICS

What is the deadline for registration?
The last day to register for CFC is Monday, April 8th. Registration is subject to close before April 8th if competition capacity is reached.

How much does it cost?
Participants pay a one time registration fee to enter the contest: $35 for filmmakers and $15 for students and collaborator-only entrants. All filmmaking costs are the responsibility of the entrant.

What are the film requirements?
All submissions must be short films between 3-5 minutes in length, not including 10 seconds of opening credits and up to 60 seconds of end credits as outlined on the rules page.

Can I release my film prior to the screening?
No. After the screening, films may be released in accordance with CFC rules. Film trailers are permitted prior to screening.

COLLABORATION

Can I choose my own teammate?
Sorry, but no. Why network with someone you already know? But don’t worry– we assign teammates based on self-reported strengths.

What happens if my teammate flakes or won’t cooperate?
The CFC will review your case and provide an alternate teammate if necessary.

What happens if I can’t complete the two weeks of filmmaking due to an emergency or scheduling conflict?
We get it: conflicts happen. But this event is about giving as much as you take, so unfortunately, any filmmaker who cannot complete both weeks of filmmaking will be ineligible for jury consideration.

How do I sponsor this competition or get involved on a volunteer basis?

CHALLENGE

What format do I have to use for submitting my film?
All films must be submitted on DVD. If your film is selected for screening, CFC will contact you for HD media which will be converted to Blu-Ray.

Can I pay crew and actors?
Yes, but payment is solely your responsibility.

Can we use SAG actors in our films?
Yes, but it is your sole responsibility to clear their participation with SAG.

Is animation allowed?
Encouraged!

FESTIVAL

Who sees the film?
The CFC will screen 60-90 minutes of selected films at the Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood. In addition to our entrants, their guests, and our panel of judges, the screening will be marketed to members of the media and all levels of industry players.

How much does the screening cost?
Nothing! The screening and the reception following are provided courtesy of the CFC.

Can I bring guests to the screening?
Yes, but due to limited seating the CFC reserves the right to restrict or alter the number of guests allowed per entrant.

How do the judges pick the winner?
The CFC narrows down the top films and provides the judges with 60-90 minutes worth of entries. The judges then choose their favorite film at their own discretion.
