The CFC is a one-of-a-kind film festival based in Los Angeles. Not only do you make your own movie in a week, but you don’t have to do it alone: you pair up with other filmmakers with compatible strengths. Are you a writer in search of a cameraman? An editor looking for a director? Everyone’s in it together!
At each year’s Orientation, we release the Theme Quote meant to inspire that year’s movies. Over the next two weeks, you and your collaborators make one movie, and you help at least one other filmmaker with theirs. Along the way, we provide filmmaking resources from local and national sponsors, assistance from professional mentors, and workshops in every area of film production. Then we screen the Challenge’s strongest entries in front of a packed house of industry members—and our esteemed judges—and hand out over $10,000 in cash and prizes.
It’s about who you know. The film industry relies on networking and collaboration more than any other. So why do so many festivals ask filmmakers to create alone? Those lucky enough to get their work screened can make connections, but most people who enter a contest like ours get left out in the cold.
That’s why we founded the CFC. We’re filmmakers too, and we know how important networking really is. We want to build an environment all about collaborating— not just making a movie, but meeting other filmmakers; and not just meeting them, but working with them. The end result? More connections, more opportunities, and more movies!
The CFC’s a toddler now! We introduced the festival in 2012, and it was a hit. In each of the past three years, our filmmakers got their films screened in the packed-to-capacity Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood, met our illustrious judges— including Slamdance president Peter Baxter, actor/director Matthew Lillard, film critic Kurt Loder, legendary manager Barry Katz, and King of Queens creator Michael J. Weithorn—and walked away with over $8,000 in their pockets. Over 150 filmmakers have joined the CFC, and we look forward to seeing hundreds more.
With all of our past years’ successes, we’re looking to expand for year four. Stay tuned right here for more details!
